100 Japanese skincare and body rituals from my grandmother's bathroom in Kanazawa and my years behind a Tokyo beauty counter. Each one comes with the one small detail that makes it work, and what to do if your skin says no.
Most of a $300 cream is glycerin, water and oil in a heavy glass jar. You pay for the glass, the gold lid and the counter.
Twelve products in a row is a sales plan. My grandmother used five things, and she used them gently, in the right order.
No cream turns back time. What you can have is skin that feels comfortable, looks rested and is protected from the sun.
If your skin feels tight after washing or every new product disappoints you, it was never your fault. Nobody showed you the gentle way.
I grew up in Kanazawa. Every night my grandmother washed her face with a little cotton bag of rice bran, pressed in a few drops of camellia oil, and went to bed.
Then I spent twenty-two years behind a department-store skincare counter in Tokyo. I sold beautiful jars to thousands of women. And I watched which of them came back happier. It was almost never the ones who bought the most.
I am not a doctor, and this is not a medical book. It is what I learned about care: gentle hands, the right order, water first and oil last, sunscreen every morning, and patience.
So I wrote it all down. My grandmother's rituals, the ones from my videos, and the honest answers I could never give at the counter.
Six of the 100 secrets inside, one in every ritual.
Every ritual is two pages: a photo first, then the whole ritual on one page. Easy to follow with damp hands.
You see exactly what you are making or doing before you start.
Teaspoons and millilitres, °C and °F, minutes and how often.
The one detail that makes the ritual work, and why.
Tightness, redness, no difference: what it means and what to change.
A patch-test and safety note on every single ritual. Gentle first.
How long each fresh mixture lasts in the fridge, and when to expect a difference.
All ten chapters, 100 rituals, the full index of fixes and every future update.
The rice water from my first video, written out in full.
A gentle softening rinse made from washing rice
Rice water carries a little starch. When it dries alone on the skin it pulls into a tight film. Keep your face damp and add moisturizer within a minute.
Patch test on your inner forearm for 24 hours. Never use the first rinse. Fridge, 3 days, then throw it away.
A real page from the book, shortened slightly to fit the screen.
Real comments from the YouTube channel, quoted word for word. They are about the videos; the book is brand new.

No. It is a digital PDF for your phone, tablet or computer. Print any page you want to keep by the mirror.
No, and the book says so on the first page. It is beauty and care, not medical advice. For any skin condition, please see a dermatologist.
Every ritual has a "Careful" note and starts with a 24-hour patch test. Begin with one new ritual at a time, and skip anything your skin doesn't like.
No. Most rituals use rice, tea, honey, oil, cotton and a good towel. Where a product helps, the book tells you what type to look for on the label, never a brand.
